You leave understanding your own face and frame well enough to brief any good barber or tailor anywhere in the world, which is a strange ambition for a studio to hold and precisely what this one is for.
Itzy J. is a licensed barber and a barber-cosmetology instructor, which means part of every week is spent teaching the craft to the people who will carry it after him. He is also a second-generation tailor, so the eye that judges your hairline is the eye that judges your shoulder line. The studio is at 18 N Marengo Avenue in Pasadena, by appointment, for individuals rather than the masses.
Before anything is booked, you answer three questions. They take a few minutes, and no one but Itzy reads them. They exist because a man is rarely served well by a stranger who knows nothing about him, and because the answers settle whether this is the right room — a question worth answering before you give an hour to the wrong one.
